The long interweaving brush strokes represent grass seeds ( its botanical name Portulaca Oleracea) which can be found at Atnwengerrp, Utopia in Central Australia.

  • The red background and black brush-strokes depicted symbolise the grass being burnt in a bush fire
  • The white and grey brush-strokes depicted symbolise the aftermath of a bush fire

The grass is an important food source for the Aboriginal people because it bears small black seeds which are ground up to make flour.
