The artwork depicts the Dreamtime Sisters. Eastern Arrernteaboriginal glossary button Aboriginal people from Central Australia call the spirits Irrernte-arenyeaboriginal glossary button.


It is their role to protect special areas of land in particular sacred sites. Eastern Arrernte people have deep spiritual respect for the Dreamtime spirits.

  • The red patterned shapes represent a significant Dreaming site, symbolised by a totem stick which represents Eastern Arrernte country.
  • Each figure depicted protects a scared site (circles under figure)
  • The white meandering lines represent creek beds connected to waterholes (roundels)
  • The aqua pattern (left & right) represents yam seeds
