The painting depicts Aboriginal iconography referring to the cycle of Pamapardu (Flying Ant). When it rains heavily the Pamapardu emerge from their mounds (mingkirri), sprout wings and fly off to rebuild a new colony.

Illustrated symbols are:

  • The edges represent sand dunes and spinifex
  • White double lines represent lightning and rain
  • Brown roundels (with grey & white dots) represents Mirawarri, west of Yuendumu, where the Water Dreaming starts.
  • U shape represents the left-handed Jagamarra - he threw the boomerang to stop the ants nesting in his country
