The painting depicts a Lagoon surrounded by the tall lotus lilies. The tall lotus lily with its large pink flower and thick yellow stamens are spectacular water plants, which can found at Kakadu and Lakefield wetlands in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Brolgas and sarus cranes enjoy striding through the tall lilies, searching for tubers of sedges, which they dig up from underground with their long bills.
