Mitjila is a Pintupi woman from Haasts Bluff region. She was born circ 1945 and is half sister to Turkey Tolso, another well known painter. She paints her father's country which lies in the Gibson Desert near the Kintore Ranges. The country is covered in the beautfiul desert oaks. She is said to be one of the most highly represented female artists represented in all Australian state and national Galleries. Here unique style makes her stand out from all other contemporary Aboriginal painters, and this has a direct impact on her popularity throughout the world.
