The painting refer to the Tingari ancestors, who were group of mythical beings in the Dreamtime. They travelled over vast stretches of Pintupi country in the Western Desert performing rituals, creating and shaping particular sites (concentric circles).
The Tingari women followed the Tingari men and were accompanied by novices. It is the Tingari men and womens travels and adventures that are enshrined in a number of song cycles.
